FAQ

The AI Playground is an interactive interface for testing AI models with full control over parameters. You can choose any model, adjust temperature and max tokens, add system prompts, and see raw model output with token usage statistics.

All self-hosted models (Qwen 2.5 7B, Qwen2.5-72B, Mistral-7B, Phi-3, Qwen2.5-Coder-32B, DeepSeek-Coder-V2-Lite) are free to use. Premium models via OpenRouter (GPT-4o, Claude Sonnet 4, Gemini 2.0 Flash, Grok 3 Mini, and more) deduct from your token balance.

Temperature controls randomness in the model's output. Lower values (0.0-0.3) produce more focused, deterministic responses. Higher values (0.7-1.5) produce more creative, varied responses. The default of 0.7 is a good balance for most tasks.

A system prompt is an optional instruction that tells the model how to behave. For example, 'You are a helpful Python tutor' or 'Respond only in JSON format.' It sets the context for the entire conversation without being visible in the output.

Max tokens sets the maximum length of the model's response. One token is roughly 4 characters. Setting it to 1024 allows responses up to about 750 words. Increase it for longer outputs or decrease it to save tokens.

The Playground shows input tokens (your prompt plus system prompt) and output tokens (the model's response) separately. Total cost is the sum of both. Self-hosted models are free within your daily limit.

Yes. Click the Stop button that appears while the model is generating. This cancels the request immediately. You will only be charged for tokens already generated before stopping.

Self-hosted models are free within your daily token limit. Premium OpenRouter models deduct tokens from your balance. The Playground uses the same token system as all other Free.ai tools.

The Playground is ideal for developers testing prompts, researchers comparing model outputs, prompt engineers optimizing instructions, and anyone who wants more control over model parameters than the standard chat interface provides.

Yes. Run the same prompt with different models to compare quality, speed, and token usage. The elapsed time and token counts shown after each run make it easy to benchmark models against each other.

AI Chat is optimized for multi-turn conversations with a polished interface. The Playground is a developer-focused tool that gives you raw control over model parameters, system prompts, and output settings for single-turn testing and experimentation.

Yes. The Playground is an excellent way to test and refine prompts before using them in your API integration. Once you have a prompt that works well, use the same model, system prompt, and parameters in your API calls.
