How to sign a PDF in 4 steps

  1. Upload the PDF (up to 50 MB). We render per-page thumbnails locally for fast placement.
  2. Draw your signature on the canvas OR type your name in a cursive font.
  3. Click a page thumbnail to drop the signature, drag to reposition. Repeat for additional pages.
  4. Click Sign. The PDF is flattened and downloaded. It's NOT a cryptographic e-signature — it's a visual sig like Preview or Adobe Fill & Sign.

PDF Signature — FAQ

Add a visible signature to a PDF online. Draw your signature on a canvas (mouse or finger), or type your name in a cursive font. Click any page thumbnail to drop the signature at that spot, then drag to reposition. Sign multiple pages and add a date stamp in one submission.

After upload we render every page as a thumbnail. Click to place your signature at the click position, then drag the placement box to fine-tune. Each placement shows as a red outline with delete + duplicate controls. You confirm placements before the PDF is stamped.

Yes — type your full name and pick one of four cursive fonts (Allura, Great Vibes, Sacramento, Pacifico, all Open Font License). The result renders as a transparent PNG and overlays like a hand-drawn signature. Matches what DocuSign and Adobe Sign use by default.

300 tokens per signature placed — one signature across two pages costs 600, three sigs cost 900. 300-token floor. Free users get 2,500 daily tokens — most small signings are free.

Technically no — what we produce is a visual signature (a picture of your handwriting on the PDF). It is legally binding in many jurisdictions for simple agreements (NDA, order form, informal consent) but does not carry a cryptographic audit trail like DocuSign or Adobe Sign Enterprise. For court-admissible signatures on high-stakes contracts, use a service that stamps a PAdES LTV certificate.

Up to 50 MB per PDF. Up to 200 pages per document — past that the thumbnail panel gets unwieldy; split at /pdf/split/ first. You can place as many signatures per page as you want.

Yes — check "Add date" before placing. We stamp the current UTC date (YYYY-MM-DD) just below each signature. For custom dates or timestamps, edit the PDF after download in Preview / Adobe / Foxit.

Adding a new visual signature does not remove the old ones — the document ends up with both. If the prior signature was cryptographic (Adobe Sign, DocuSign PAdES), adding our visual layer invalidates the cert because we re-serialize the file. For multi-party cryptographic sigs, use an enterprise e-sign tool.

Yes. The PDF is written to a temp folder on our API server, signed, and the source is deleted. We do not render share links for signed documents — privacy default is on. The signed PDF downloads to your browser and is stored on our CDN for 24 hours for your account history.

We refuse it on upload — you need to unlock at /pdf/unlock/ first if you own the document. Once signed, you can re-protect with a password at /pdf/protect/.

Free.ai is free and lets you draw or type a visual signature with drag-to-place. DocuSign ($10-40/mo), HelloSign / Dropbox Sign ($20/mo), Adobe Sign ($14.99/mo) all offer audit-trail cryptographic signatures suitable for legal e-sig compliance (ESIGN Act, eIDAS). We cover the quick personal-use case they charge for; use them for regulated contracts.

Yes — POST multipart to /v1/pdf/sign/ with file + signature_image (PNG) + placements (JSON array of {page, x, y, w, h} in normalized 0-1 coords). Quote endpoint /v1/pdf/sign-quote/?signatures=N returns the exact cost. Full curl recipe at /api/.
