Yes — the output is a clean high-res design (1024x1024 on SDXL, 2048x2048 on FLUX Ultra premium), ideal as a reference / stencil starting point. Most artists will refine the design for your anatomy, add / remove detail, and add the linework registration for transfer paper. Treat AI output as concept art; the artist is the craftsperson.

Traditional (American old-school) = bold outlines, limited palette, nautical / pin-up / eagles. Neo-traditional = Traditional with more colors + finer detail. Tribal = bold black geometric. Japanese Irezumi = full-sleeve scenic (koi, waves, dragons). Watercolor = paint-splash aesthetic. Minimalist/fine-line = single-weight hairline work. Blackwork = solid black shapes. Realism = photo-tattoo portraits.

Yes — the placement cue folds into the prompt with layout hints. Forearm = vertical rectangular composition. Sleeve = long flowing narrative layout. Back = dramatic centered full-panel. Wrist / ankle = compact / symmetrical small design. Finger = tiny glyph-style. Pick the placement that matches where you want it inked.

Partially — describe your existing tattoo in the prompt ("large tribal band around upper arm, design must cover and disguise black tribal shapes"). The AI will bias toward larger darker designs that absorb the original. For serious cover-ups, bring the AI design + your photo to a specialist — they are much better at this than any model.

Partially — SDXL / FLUX will attempt portrait-style tattoos but faces often come out slightly off. Premium Seedream 4 and FLUX Dev are noticeably better. For tattoo portraits of specific people (memorial tattoos, children, pets), upload their photo to /image/edit/ with prompt "convert to realism-style tattoo stencil, black-and-gray, suitable for skin transfer".

The models will attempt famous-person likeness with middling success; results are often better as someone who looks like X than a perfect match. Branded characters (Mickey Mouse, Pokemon) raise trademark issues if you tattoo-shop-sell them. Personal tattoo = your call; commercial use = clear the rights first. Free.ai does not verify IP.
