ALWAYS confirm the official spec before submitting (US Department of State, IND, Schengen, etc.). For US passports the State Department requires an in-person photo at an accredited studio. Treat the AI photo as a preview / concept / online-platform-KYC photo.

Premium FLUX Kontext Pro preserves identity reasonably well — face shape, ethnicity, distinguishing features. The free self-hosted path only swaps the background and is not a true recompose. For mission-critical photos (visa, residency), use the premium model and verify the output looks like you before submitting.

Premium Kontext Pro will attempt to remove glasses, hats, and exaggerated expressions per the ID spec. Self-hosted fallback will not. For best results, take a fresh selfie matching the spec — neutral expression, no accessories, even lighting.

Free.ai is $0 (free self-hosted) or premium tokens (~45K = ~$0.20 per photo at $5/200K rates) and supports attire swap they do not. CVS / Walgreens booth ($15-20) gives you printed + officially accepted physical photos. We are upstream of all of them — best for the digital preview, KYC platforms, and online IDs.

Yes — most platform KYC accepts anything that looks like a real ID-style photo. Crypto exchanges (Binance, Coinbase), freelancer platforms (Upwork, Fiverr), gig apps (Uber, DoorDash), and dating-app verification all accept these without issue. Verify-spec rigor varies; if a platform rejects, retake with the exact spec they request.

Generating one is legal. Submitting an AI photo where the issuing authority requires an in-person capture (US passport renewal, some Schengen embassies) misrepresents your photo and can result in rejection or delay. For low-stakes uses (online platforms, employee badges, student cards, KYC) AI is fine; for sovereign-document submission, follow the official rules.
