AI 3D Generator - FAQ

AI Image to 3D converts a single photo of an object into a textured 3D mesh. Upload any object photo and get a downloadable GLB file with PBR materials you can view, edit, 3D-print, or drop into Blender / Unity / Unreal.

Yes! Generate 3D models from images for free with daily limits. No sign up required.

The default backend is Microsoft TRELLIS.2-4B - a 4-billion-parameter flow-matching transformer that outputs textured GLB meshes with PBR materials (geometry plus base color, roughness, metallic, normal, and opacity maps). It handles arbitrary topology - open surfaces, non-manifold geometry, and translucent objects - at up to 1536³ voxel resolution. MIT-licensed, fully commercial-friendly. TripoSR is kept as a fast fallback option.

TRELLIS.2 finishes in 3-17 seconds on our H200 GPU at standard resolution (most uploads land around 8-12 seconds). TripoSR (the fast fallback) takes 15-30 seconds. Cold starts on a freshly loaded model add ~20 seconds.

A single object on a clean, plain background, lit from one direction, photographed roughly head-on. TRELLIS.2 is more forgiving than older image-to-3D models - it handles partial occlusion, complex topology (chairs, hair, lace), and translucent materials (glass, wax) better than the previous generation.

TRELLIS.2 outputs GLB (web-ready, with PBR materials baked in - opens in any modern browser, AR viewer, Blender, Unity, Unreal). The TripoSR fallback also supports OBJ export, but OBJ drops the PBR material slot, so for textured assets stick with GLB.

Yes. TRELLIS.2 is MIT-licensed - no commercial, territorial, or industry restrictions. Generated meshes are yours to ship, sell, print, or modify.

Yes - the result page renders an interactive three.js viewer right after generation (click-drag to rotate, scroll to zoom). GLB files also play natively in most modern browsers, Google AR Quick Look, and online viewers like the Babylon.js sandbox.

TRELLIS.2 handles people somewhat - it captures the silhouette and clothing well but can lose facial detail. For products, sculptures, furniture, characters, vehicles, and food, results are noticeably better than older single-image methods. Hair and fabric are now handled cleanly thanks to PBR support.

Yes - GLB exports include vertex geometry the slicer can read directly. TRELLIS.2 ships with a post-processing hole-fill pass to maximize watertight printability, but the result is not guaranteed watertight on every shape. For critical prints, run the mesh through Blender's 3D-print toolbox or Meshmixer's "Make Solid" before slicing.

TRELLIS.2 generates at 512³, 1024³, or 1536³ voxel resolution depending on the input. Free.ai's default targets 1M decimated faces with a 2048×2048 PBR texture atlas - game-ready out of the box. We can bump texture size to 4096 for hero assets at a small VRAM cost.

Yes - POST multipart to /v1/3d/generate/ with `image` (file) and `model=trellis2-4b` (or `triposr` for the fast fallback). Returns a JSON body with `file_url` pointing at the GLB. Full curl + Python snippets at /api/. X-User-Id header required for authenticated quotas.
