Very good on clean text PDFs — headings, paragraph breaks, bullet lists, and columns carry over. Tables are detected and converted to real Word tables. Scanned / image-only PDFs produce text-only output unless you OCR first at /pdf/ocr/ — we detect and warn on upload.

We map PDF fonts to the closest Word font by name, or fall back to Calibri / Arial. Exotic fonts (custom branding, math fonts) may render with a substitution — Word highlights missing fonts on open so you can adjust. Text content is 100% accurate regardless.
Not directly — we refuse encrypted files on upload. Unlock at /pdf/unlock/ first if you own the document and know the password.
A scanned PDF has no text layer — running PDF to Word gives you a DOCX with the images embedded but no editable text. Run /pdf/ocr/ first to produce a searchable PDF with a real text layer, then convert that to DOCX here.
Yes. Conversion runs entirely on our API server (pdf2docx + python-docx, no third-party cloud). The source PDF is deleted after conversion. The DOCX is stored on our CDN for 24 hours (7 days with active credits) at a share link.
