This Privacy Policy describes how Muddy Holdings LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Free.ai website, tools, API, and related services (the "Service"). We believe in being transparent about what we collect and why.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.
Payment information: When you purchase a plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your name, billing address, and the last four digits of your card number. We never see or store your full credit card number.
Contact form messages: If you contact us through the contact form or email, we collect the email address and message content you provide.
User content: The prompts you send to our AI tools ("Input") and the generated results ("Output"). We process this content to provide the Service.

Information Collected Automatically

IP address: We collect your IP address for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security purposes.
Usage data: We log which tools you use, token consumption, and basic interaction data to operate and improve the Service.
Device information: Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution may be collected through our analytics service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide the Service: Process your requests, run AI models, and deliver results.
Manage your account: Authenticate you, track your token balance, and manage subscriptions.
Process payments: Facilitate billing and refunds through our payment processor.
Improve the Service: Understand usage patterns to improve performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
Prevent abuse: Enforce rate limits, detect fraud, and protect against misuse.
Communicate with you: Respond to support inquiries, send service-related emails (account verification, password resets), and occasional product updates. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

We do not use your Input or Output to train AI models without your explicit consent.

3. Cookies

We use the following types of cookies:

Session cookies: Essential for keeping you logged in and maintaining your session. These are strictly necessary for the Service to function.
CSRF tokens: Protect against cross-site request forgery attacks. These are security cookies.
Analytics cookies (Clicky): We use Clicky for privacy-friendly web analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Clicky collects anonymized usage data. You can opt out of Clicky tracking at clicky.com/optout.

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels from ad networks.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third parties, only as necessary to operate the Service:

When you use a self-hosted Free.ai model, your data stays on our servers and is not sent to any third party. When you select a third-party model (via OpenRouter or similar), your prompt is forwarded to that model's provider. We clearly label which models are self-hosted and which are third-party.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

5. Data Retention

Account data: Retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it.
Chat and generation history: Stored to provide your usage history. You can delete your history from your account settings. After account deletion, this data is purged within 30 days.
Server logs: IP addresses and access logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and abuse prevention, then deleted.
Payment records: Retained as required by tax and financial regulations (typically 7 years).

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

All data transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption.
Passwords stored using strong one-way hashing (never in plain text).
Regular security reviews and updates.
Access to production systems restricted to essential personnel.

No system is perfectly secure. If we discover a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you promptly.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data: View the personal information we hold about you from your account settings.
Correct your data: Update your email or other account information at any time.
Delete your data: Delete your account and all associated data from your account settings, or by emailing us.
Export your data: Request a copy of your data by emailing hello@free.ai.
Opt out of analytics: Disable cookies in your browser settings or use Clicky's opt-out page.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. International Users

Free.ai is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
